NASA Decides To Move Forward With Asteroid Deflection Program

5 July 2017
Digital Trends reports that NASA has decided to move forward with its part of the Asteroid Impact and Deflection Assessment mission. The agency’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) has moved from the conceptual stage to the preliminary design stage, which will allow the team to begin earnest mission designs for deflecting an asteroid threatening Earth. “DART is a critical step in demonstrating we can protect our planet from a future asteroid impact,” said project co-lead Andy Cheng. The project’s development is being managed by scientists at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. (Image Credit: NASA)
